Nessus is a desolate, rocky wasteland of, massive, black, icy rifts and immense, jagged, flame-filled chasms that plunge miles deep. It is a, dark, claustrophobic, and, fiery city, often characterized by, a swirling crimson void, and featuring the massive fortress of Malsheem.

The layer embodies absolute pride, cunning, and relentless ambition, reflecting Asmodeus’s character. Its cities, adorned with monuments and treasures from conquered realms, are designed to awe and intimidate, while the grotesque remains of defeated arch-devils caution against hubris. Nessus also functions as a manufacturing hub for fine goods and magical items, showing the cunning integration of commerce and cruelty in infernal society.
Fun Fact: The Tiefling midwife Destiny Agganor from Nightstone had a set of runes burned onto her front door to ward off unwanted visitors. It contained a prayer that included damning any intruders to burn in Nessus for almost a century!

Asmodeus is the Lord of Hell. He typically appears as a tall, strikingly handsome, and charismatic devil over 13 feet tall with deep red skin, black hair, small horns, and glowing red eyes. He is usually dressed in exquisite, regal finery and carries the Ruby Rod of Asmodeus, a powerful artifact.
What is the symbol of the city?
The primary symbol of Asmodeus, the Lord of Hell, is three inverted triangles arranged in a long triangle. It is sometimes depicted as a red, narrow triangle pointed downward with a y‑shaped portion cut out, or a stylized, horned human figure rising from a pit of flames.
