Spiderfolk
D&D Spiderfolk Race
The Spiderfolk live in the mysterious Egyptian-inspired land of دارجلا (Al-Jarad), a region shared with other insectoid races such as the Thri-kreen (grasshopper-like beings) and intelligent ants. In this unique world, insects and arachnids share the land and live in a fragile harmony.
Appearance
Spiderfolk are a hybrid race: their upper body resembles that of a dark elf, while their lower body consists of eight spider legs and a large abdomen. From this abdomen, they can launch webs to capture enemies or aid in movement. They also possess two powerful mandibles, which can be venomous. These mandibles can retract, allowing them to appear as though they have a normal mouth helping them blend more easily among other races.
Al-Jarad
The land of Al-Jarad features vast swamps, towering mountains, and mysterious caves. To the east, the terrain transforms into a dry desert with imposing pyramids. The land is known for its ancient temples, sacred tombs, and deep connections to Egyptian deities such as Ra and Osiris.
Pharaohs
Society in Al-Jarad is ruled by four pharaohs, each representing a different insectoid race:
The Spider Pharaoh, leader of the Spiderfolk.
The Grasshopper Pharaoh, ruler of the Thri-kreen.
The Ant Pharaoh, representative of the ant-like Thri-kreen.
The Bee Pharaoh, leader of the Vespoids, a bee-like people.
These four pharaohs govern together in harmony. When a new pharaoh is chosen, it is customary for the old pharaoh to be ceremonially sacrificed and eaten starting with the head, followed by the rest of the body.
Transportation
Inhabitants of Al-Jarad use giant insects as mounts: beetles for land travel, wasps and other flying creatures for air travel. While many insects are gigantic and intelligent, smaller species such as mosquitoes and crane flies are also present.
Egyptian Gods
The Spiderfolk and their neighbors worship the ancient Egyptian gods, basing their culture, magic, and politics on these divine powers.
