Ratfolk
Dnd Ratfolk Race
Habitat and Society
The Moucheese and Ratfolk live deep beneath the cities, hidden away in sewers and underground tunnels. There, they form a tight-knit community that lives in harmony often under the leadership of a figure known as the Ratking, whose word is absolute law. Everything in their society revolves around obedience to this leader, who decides what happens within their hidden world.
They rarely come to the surface, except to search for food. During these excursions, they often steal from markets or other races, though they aren’t above eating scraps or rotting leftovers. Despite their reputation, Ratfolk play a surprisingly important ecological role in both nature and the city: they clean up waste, food remains, and dead animals, helping to keep the ecosystem balanced.
Appearance
Ratfolk closely resemble humanoid rats small in stature, with lean bodies, long tails, and rat-like faces. Their fur is usually gray, but can also be white, brown, or black.
Moucheese look more like mice, with larger eyes and ears, giving them a slightly friendlier appearance, though their size and fur colors are similar to those of the Ratfolk.
Both races usually wear worn-out or tattered clothing items they’ve scavenged or pieced together during their foraging and raids.
Culture and Behavior
Moucheese and Ratfolk are often viewed by other races as pests or thieves. Yet beneath the surface, they possess a rich and vibrant culture. They play music in the sewers, tell stories, and share a deep communal bond. They are curious, agile, and rarely stay in one place for long always moving, always seeking something new.
Their greatest weakness? Cheese. Even the sight or scent of a small piece seems to draw them in irresistibly.
